A letter that could go to any employer in the sector reads like one that went to all of them. Pick the two or three requirements the posting puts first and build the letter around those. The rest of your history can stay on the resume. The test is simple: swap in a competitor's name, and if the letter still works, it is not finished yet.
A reader decides in the first two lines whether to keep going. Opening with your degree and your enthusiasm spends them on information the resume already carries. Open instead with the nearest thing you have done to the work being hired for, in one concrete sentence with a number in it, and use the rest of the paragraph to say how you did it.
Why this role, why you, and what you want to happen next. Three paragraphs and a sign off fits on a page with room to breathe, and a page that looks readable gets read. Length does not signal effort. It signals that you could not decide what mattered. If a sentence is not doing work, cut it and the letter gets stronger.
The resume lists what you did. The letter carries what a list cannot: the decision behind a project, what went wrong and what you did about it, why this company rather than the one next door.
