Why it matters

One careers adviser for every 2,236 students.

That is the ratio a careers office is asked to work at. No careers team reviews two thousand resumes, and the students who most need the review are the least likely to book the appointment. FirstResume covers the repeatable part for the whole cohort, so your team’s hours go where a person changes the outcome.

  • 01

    Save time and reduce stress

A student can go from a job posting to a tailored application in two minutes. The hours that used to go into formatting and rewriting go into deciding where to apply and preparing for the interview instead.

  • 02

    Higher quality applications

Every application is written against the specific posting, in a layout that survives applicant tracking systems. Students stop sending the same file to every employer, which is the single most common reason good candidates hear nothing.

  • 03

    Improve graduate employment

Interview practice, company research and compatibility scoring are available to every student on the platform, not only the ones confident enough to book an appointment.

  • 04

    Scalable support

Personal guidance for a whole cohort without adding headcount. The careers team spends its time on the conversations that need a human, and the platform covers the rest.

The admin panel

Cohort dashboard

X-ray vision into student career progress.

How many students signed up, how many are applying, how many applications each active student has sent, and the industries the cohort is aiming at. Filter it by intake, so an MBA batch and an undergraduate cohort are never averaged into one meaningless figure.

  • Activation rate and sign up rate, so you can tell take-up from usage
  • Applications, job clicks and top industries across the cohort
  • Seats used against seats allocated, with days left on the batch

Cohort whitelisting

Decide exactly who gets a seat.

Load a roll of student emails and only those students can claim an account. Run one batch for a September MBA intake and another for final year undergraduates, each with its own seat count and its own end date.

  • Access by email, so a seat cannot be shared outside the cohort
  • Separate batches per programme, each with its own period
  • Unclaimed seats visible while there is still time to chase them

Individual analytics

Open one student and see their whole hunt.

How many applications they have sent, how many reached an interview, what they applied for month by month and which industries they are aiming at. An adviser opens an appointment already knowing where the student is stuck.

  • Saved, applied, interviewing, offer and rejected per student
  • Applications by month, so a stall shows up as a gap
  • Industry and job function spread, next to what they said they wanted

Resumes on request

Read a student's resume, with their permission.

A student can release their tailored resume to your team, and your team can download it. That is how an adviser reviews a real document before an appointment, and how you send a shortlist of candidates to an employer who asked for one.

  • Released by the student, so nothing is visible until they say so
  • The tailored version for a specific job, not a stale upload
  • Download in bulk when an employer asks for a set of candidates

Works with what you run

Connect it to the systems you already have.

An API connection puts the cohort data where your team already looks. Push enrolment from your student record system so a new intake provisions itself, and pull application and outcome data back into the reporting you already produce.

  • Provision and expire seats from your own student records
  • Pull application, interview and outcome data into your reporting
  • Built with your team during onboarding, not left as a manual export

FAQ

What is FirstResume for universities?

A student employability platform your careers service licenses for a cohort. Every student gets AI job matching, tailored resumes and cover letters, company research, compatibility scoring and interview practice. Your team gets an admin panel: cohort analytics, control over who has a seat, per-student application detail, and the ability to post your own exclusive roles. It is designed to cover the repeatable part of careers support at a scale no team can staff.

How long does it take to set up?

Two weeks from the point we agree the details. That covers provisioning accounts for the cohort, loading your whitelist so only your students can claim a seat, any configuration specific to your institution, and a training session for the careers team on the admin panel and the analytics. Students can start the day it goes live.

How does licensing and pricing work?

Institutions are priced separately from individuals, based on the size of the cohort and what your team needs configured. Seats are allocated in batches, so you can run one batch for an MBA intake and another for final year undergraduates, each with its own seat count and its own end date. When a batch expires, those students revert to the free tier. Contact our sales team and we will put a proposal together.

What can the careers team see, and what stays private?

The panel shows cohort analytics and each student's application progress: how many applications they have sent, which stages they reached, what industries they are aiming at and where they have stalled. Resumes are different. A student has to mark a resume as their primary resume before an administrator can open or download it, so nothing they have not released is visible to your team.

How is student data handled?

Identifying details are removed and replaced with placeholders before any document is sent to an AI provider and restored on our side afterwards, so the model never receives information that identifies a student. Data is encrypted, stored in a database we control, and never sold or shared with third parties for their own purposes. Institutions run their own privacy notice with their students; ours covers the individual relationship.

Can we connect it to our own systems?

Yes. An API connection lets you provision and expire seats from your student record system, so a new intake sets itself up rather than being loaded by hand, and pull application, interview and outcome data back into the reporting you already produce. We build that with your team during onboarding rather than leaving it as a manual export.

Can we post our own jobs to our students?

Yes. Your team can add exclusive roles you have sourced and send them to the whole cohort or to named students, alongside the public listings the job board already pulls from company career pages. Employer relationships your careers office has built stay yours, and students see those roles in the same place they see everything else.

Does the AI write things students cannot back up?

No. Every suggestion is anchored to something already in the student's profile and arrives as a before and after they approve. That matters more for an institution than for an individual: a graduate who cannot defend a line on their resume loses the offer in the interview, and it is your reputation with that employer as much as theirs.

Do students need training to use it?

No. A student uploads an existing resume or fills in a profile once, then pastes a job link. Everything after that is reviewing suggestions and pressing accept or edit. We provide materials you can put in front of students, and the training session we run is for your team on the admin panel rather than for the cohort.

Can you build something we need that is not listed?

Often, yes. Several features started as a request from a partner institution. Customisation is quoted separately from the licence, and we will tell you honestly whether something is a configuration change, a build, or not something we should do. Tell us what your careers office needs and we will come back with a timeline.

Your students deserve the best future.
