How it works

Create a tailored resume in two minutes.

Swipe to explore

Step 1 : Start with the job

Paste the job link, pick your skills.

FirstResume reads the job description and lists what the employer asked for. You tick the skills you can back up, so nothing lands on your resume that you cannot defend in the interview.

Step 2 : Approve the edits

See each edit before it goes in.

FirstResume rewrites your bullet points around the keywords an ATS scans for and shows you the old line beside the new one, with the reason for the change. Accept them all, reword one, or throw it out.

Step 3 : Edit and export

Edit by hand, then export a PDF.

Rewrite a bullet, drag sections into a new order, switch template. Export a clean PDF that stays filed against the job it was written for.

Why it matters

Software reads your resume before a person does.

Employers run applications through an applicant tracking system first, and it matches your wording against the posting. So a strong candidate who described the work in their own words loses to a weaker one who happened to use the employer’s. Nothing about your experience changed. Only the vocabulary did.

Why FirstResume

ATS optimised keywords

The keywords the ATS looks for, backed by your experience.

FirstResume reads the job description next to your profile and scores you requirement by requirement. Keywords you are missing get flagged for you to decide on, never slipped in behind your back, so the resume the employer opens holds experience you can defend.

  • Requirement by requirement scoring before you apply
  • Missing keywords flagged, never inserted on your behalf
  • Single-column layout and standard headings that parse cleanly

Human in the loop

You approve every line before it reaches the page.

The AI proposes, you decide. Each suggestion shows your original line, the replacement and the reason for the change. You walk into the interview able to talk through every line on your resume.

  • Accept, edit or dismiss each suggestion on its own
  • Every edit anchored to experience already in your profile
  • Skip to manual editing at any point

Powerful editor

A full resume editor, wording and design.

When the tailoring is done your resume opens in a real editor. Rewrite a bullet with a prompt or type it yourself, drag sections into a new order, change spacing and type size, switch template, with the preview updating beside you.

  • Section, entry and bullet level editing, with drag to reorder
  • Regenerate any single bullet without touching the rest
  • Templates, spacing and font size with a live preview

Data security

The model never learns who you are.

Your name, contact details and links are stripped out before a document is sent for processing, and put back on your side once the text returns. The work is all still there. The person it belongs to is not.

Been using FirstResume for the past month and wow... applied to 40 jobs already and got 4 interviews! Usually I'd spend forever tweaking each resume but this does it so much better than I could.

Job applications

Old way, new way

Rewriting it by hand

A master resume and a lot of copy and paste

  • Thirty to sixty minutes per application
  • You guess which words the posting cares about
  • Formatting is your problem, and most templates break parsers

Asking a general chatbot

Paste the posting, ask for a resume

  • Writes from your prompt, not from your history
  • Adds achievements you then have to catch and cut
  • Your name and contact details go in with the prompt

The playbook

Six things that decide whether an application goes further, drawn from what changes when people start tailoring rather than sending.

01

Tailoring beats volume

Sending the same resume to two hundred jobs is slower than it looks, because the rewriting happens anyway, badly, in your head at each application. Tailoring per role raises the response rate on the applications you already planned to send, which is why FirstResume optimises the per-application minute rather than the total count.

02

Keywords are evidence, not decoration

An applicant tracking system matches the words in your resume against the words in the posting. Stuffing a skills section with terms you cannot defend only moves the problem to the interview. The useful move is to surface experience you already have in the vocabulary the employer used, which is exactly the edit the AI proposes.

03

Formatting decides whether you are read

Multi-column layouts, text boxes, headers and graphics regularly come out of a parser scrambled or empty, so a resume that looks designed can arrive as noise. FirstResume templates stay single-column with standard section headings, so a machine and a hiring manager read the same document.

04

Achievements need numbers

There is a distance between saying you were responsible for reporting and saying you automated a manual reporting flow that took six hours a week. The builder asks for the scale, tool and outcome behind each bullet, then writes the line in the active voice using your figures rather than invented ones.

05

One profile, many versions

Your history does not change between applications, only its emphasis does. Filling in a profile once and generating role-specific versions from it keeps every resume consistent and truthful, while letting each one lead with what that employer cares about.

06

Review is what keeps it yours

AI writing that goes out unchecked reads like AI writing. Every suggestion here is a reviewable diff against your own words, so what you send still sounds like you. A tool that drafts for you is useful. A tool that writes instead of you is a liability.

FAQ

What is an AI resume builder?

An AI resume builder reads your experience and a job description, then writes and formats a resume aimed at that specific role. FirstResume goes further than a template filler. It works out which of your achievements matter for the job, rewrites them in the language the posting uses, and checks the result parses cleanly in an applicant tracking system.

Will my resume pass ATS screening?

That is what the build is for. FirstResume uses a single-column, parser-safe layout with standard section headings, no text boxes or images that break extraction, and the keywords drawn from the job description itself. You can see which requirements you match before you submit.

Does the AI invent experience I do not have?

No. Every suggestion is anchored to something already in your profile. It rephrases, reorders and quantifies your real work. Each edit is shown as a before and after that you accept, edit or dismiss, so nothing reaches your resume without your say-so.

Is it cheating to use an AI resume builder?

No. Nothing is added that you did not tell us. The builder rewrites and reorders your own experience so the parts that answer a specific posting stand out, which is the job a professional resume writer does. Every change is shown as your original line beside the proposed one, with the reason, and you approve it. The test that matters is whether you can talk through every line in the interview, and because the content is yours, you can.

How is this different from asking ChatGPT to write my resume?

A chatbot writes from the prompt you paste, so it fills gaps with plausible achievements you then have to catch and cut. FirstResume works from the profile you fill in once, proposes each change as a before and after against your own wording, and scores the result against the job description before you send it. You also keep a parser-safe layout, and your name and contact details are masked before anything is processed.

How long does it take to tailor a resume?

Around two minutes per application once your profile is in. Paste the job link, let the analysis run against your history, then review the suggested edits one at a time. Most people accept the batch, reword a line or two and export. The first resume takes longer because you are uploading an existing CV or filling in your profile, and that only happens once.

Can I keep different resume versions?

Yes. Every application keeps its own tailored version alongside the job it was written for, so you can reopen it weeks later when the interview invite arrives, or reuse the closest one as a starting point instead of beginning again. You can also mark one as your primary resume, which is the version shown by default and the one a careers team can see if you are on an institutional licence.

Is my personal data sent to an AI model?

Your identifying details are not. Your name, contact details, links and the names of people and places in your documents are replaced with placeholders before anything is sent to an AI provider, then restored on our side when the result comes back. The provider sees your experience and never anything that identifies you. Data is encrypted, stored in a database we control, and never sold or shared with third parties for their own purposes.

Is the AI resume builder free?

Yes. The free plan covers two AI-tailored resumes and two full application kits a month with no card required, which is enough to run real applications end to end and judge the output before paying anything. Premium raises that to thirty a month, unlocks every template and adds company research, and starts with a 7-day free trial.

Your next application deserves its own resume.
