Delete a resume

Remove a resume from Resume Builder, or restart the one inside an application. Both are permanent, and the second spends credits again.

  • From Resume Builder
  • Inside an application: Delete & Restart

Deleting a resume cannot be undone, and the two places you can do it do different things. One takes a row out of the table; the other throws the resume away and charges generation credits to make its replacement.

From Resume Builder

  1. Open Resume in the sidebar and find the row. The search box and the File name / Tailored For switch help when several resumes look alike.
  2. Press the ⋯ at the right-hand end of the row and choose Delete.
  3. The dialog asks Delete this resume? and names the file: ""Name" will be permanently deleted. This cannot be undone." Check the name is the one you mean.
  4. Press Delete. "Resume deleted" appears and the row goes.

Download a copy first if there is any chance you want the document later: Download your resume as PDF or DOCX. Deleting takes nothing out of your profile, which is where the material came from in the first place.

If the resume was your primary, put the star on another one so downloads and tailoring keep a default: What a primary resume is.

Inside an application: Delete & Restart

The resume attached to an application is the base for the rest of the kit, cover letter and interview preparation included, so FirstResume treats deleting it as starting that resume over.

  1. Open the application and its Resume tab.
  2. Press the ⋯ menu in the editor and choose Delete & Restart.
  3. Confirm Restart? spells out the cost: "Restarting resume generation will delete the current resume and restart the edit suggestion process from the beginning, the generation credits will also be deducted again as with a new resume generation. This action cannot be undone."
  4. Confirm, and the application returns to Preparing your resume, where you choose a base resume or create a new one.

Generating the replacement spends credits as though it were the first resume for that job. If a few lines are the problem, edit them in place and keep the credits: Edit your resume. The application itself survives either way; the resume is the only thing that restarts.

More in profile and resumes

  • Profile or resume: what's the difference

Your profile is the pool of everything true about you, a resume is one page drawn from it. Which to update, and why old resumes stay put.

  • Edit your profile

Add a job, a skill or a qualification to your profile, and find the blank row that stops Save Changes from going through without a word.

  • Update your profile from a CV

Upload a PDF or DOCX and FirstResume fills your profile from it in about a minute. What to feed it, and what to check when it finishes.
