Set your job preferences
Tell FirstResume which roles, places, job types and salary you want, and the Jobs board opens on listings close to what you would apply for.
Job preferences describe the work you want, as opposed to the work you have done. The Jobs board reads them for its opening filters, so the first listings you see already lean your way.
Open the tab
- Open Profile in the sidebar.
- Press the Job Preferences pill tab at the top. Blocks you have not filled read "Not specified", "No roles specified" or "No locations specified".
- Press Edit Preferences. This tab has its own button, separate from the Edit on My Profile, and it becomes Cancel and Save Preferences.
Fill in the blocks
- JOB SEARCH STATUS: Actively looking for a job, Open to opportunities, Recently hired, Not currently looking, or Currently interviewing.
- INTERESTED ROLES: press + Add Role once per job title you would apply for.
- PREFERRED LOCATION: + Add Location for each city or region.
- PREFERRED JOB TYPE: Full-time, Part-time, Contract, Temporary, Internship, Volunteer, Per Diem or Other.
- PREFERRED EXPERIENCE LEVEL: 0-2, 2-5, 5-10 or 10+ Years.
- PREFERRED WORKING ARRANGEMENT: On-site, Hybrid, Remote and office is available, or Fully Remote.
- MINIMUM EXPECTED SALARY: the lowest figure you would take.
Press Save Preferences for "Job preferences saved successfully!". Cancel drops the changes and returns you to the read view.
Getting the roles right
One job title brings in one slice of the board. The same graduate job goes out as Data Analyst at one employer and Analytics Associate at the next, so add every title you would open the posting for, plus a couple you are curious about. Locations work the same way: if you would move for the right offer, list the city you would move to alongside the one you live in.
Preferences set where the board starts, and you can change the filters on any individual search: Set your filters.
Tips
- Come back when your plans change. Widening to internships, or adding a second city, shows up in the board the next time you open it.
- Nothing here is gated by plan; the tab is the same on Starter (free), Premium and Max.
