Draft outreach emails
Draft a cold email, a thank-you, a follow-up or an offer reply for this job, then copy it into your own mail app and send it yourself.
The Out Reach tab drafts the emails around an application: the approach before you apply, the thank-you after an interview, the nudge when nobody has replied, and the awkward ones about an offer.
Two things to know first
Generating outreach is Premium. On Starter, pressing Generate opens the upgrade dialog instead of writing anything. See pricing.
FirstResume writes the email and you send it. There is no send button on the tab. You copy the draft into your own mail app, add the address, write a subject line and send it from there, which is also why any reply lands in your inbox.
Draft one
- Open the application, select the Out Reach tab and press New outreach.
- Open Outreach type and pick your situation: Cold Outreach to Recruiter, Team Connection Request, Post-Interview Thank You, Follow-up After No Response, Offer Acceptance, Offer Negotiation or Offer Rejection.
- Fill in the fields underneath, which change with the type. Cold outreach asks for Recipient name, Position interest and Discovery method. A thank-you asks for Interviewer names, Key topics and Follow-up items. A negotiation asks for Negotiation points, Supporting points and Competing offers.
- Open Additional Options for Tone, which is Formal, Modern, Casual or Custom with a live example of each, and Additional information & instructions for whatever the fields never asked.
- Tick Include company research, then press Generate. You see "Outreach email generated successfully" when it is done.
Copy it out
Each draft sits on a card headed with its objective, showing To:, the date it was created and the body. Copy to clipboard takes the text and confirms with "Copied". Regenerate opens a box for Optional comments: say what was wrong with the draft and get another.
Drafts stay on the tab, so the cold email and the follow-up you write three weeks later sit together on the same job.
Tips
- Leave Recipient name blank when you do not know it. The draft works around the gap instead of greeting the wrong person.
- Fill Key topics with what you discussed, not what you planned to say. That sentence is the only part of a thank-you anyone reads.
- Generate the company research first: Research the company.
- Check the recipient's address yourself. The draft carries whatever you typed in, and a bounced email reads as no email.
