Tailor your resume for a job
Pick a resume you already have, tick the skills you can defend, and get a copy rewritten for this job. Your original stays as it is.
Tailoring rewrites a copy of one of your resumes around one advert. It also opens the rest of the application: the Cover Letter, Out Reach and Interview tabs stay shut until a resume is attached to this job.
Before you start
- Fix the skills on the Job Summary tab first, because tailoring offers you that list: Check and fix the job summary.
- You need a resume in your library. With nothing worth reusing, see Create a resume for this job.
Pick a base resume
- Open the application, select the Resume tab, choose From existing resume and press Next.
- On Select base resume, open Select a resume. Your primary sits at the top, then the newest first. The one you pick previews on the right.
- Choose Tailor with AI to have the content rewritten for this advert, or Use Directly to attach the resume as it stands and edit it by hand.
The line "* A copy of the resume will be created, the original file will not be affected" means what it says. The resume you picked stays in your library untouched, and the copy is what belongs to this job.
Tick what you can defend
- Select skills lists the skills pulled from the advert. Tick the ones you could talk about for two minutes under questioning.
- Open a skill to answer "Where or in what project did you apply this skill?", "What exactly did you do with this skill?" and "Any measurable metrics?", then press Save. The detail you give here is what turns a generic bullet point into one that sounds like you.
- + Add custom skill covers anything the advert missed.
Generate, then read the edits
- Answer anything on Additional questions. Often there is nothing: "No additional questions for this application. You're ready to generate."
- Press Generate resume. It reads "Working on it ..." for 30 to 60 seconds and you can leave the tab.
- Review AI edit suggestions gives you one card per change with a counter of what is left. Open "Why this change?" for the reasoning, then press Accept or Decline. Accept all takes the lot; Skip To Manual Edit drops you into the editor.
- Press Finalize when the counter reaches zero.
You land in the editor with the tailored resume on the left and a live preview on the right: Edit your resume.
Tips
- Decline anything that claims work you did not do. The AI writes towards the advert and it overreaches.
- The copy appears in your library with this job in the Tailored For column.
- Check Compatibility afterwards to see what the rewrite moved, then generate your application kit.
